Sessantanni is San Marzano’s iconic flagship. It is made from 100% Primitivo grown on head-trained bush vines at least sixty years old around San Marzano and Sava, hand-harvested in late September and aged 12 months in French and American oak. In the glass it is deep ruby, with plum, cherry jam and tobacco on the nose and a finish of cocoa, coffee and vanilla. Full-bodied, generous and velvety, it rewards slow sipping and stands up to red meat, game and rich pasta. Past vintages have won 99 points from Luca Maroni and 91 from James Suckling. Open a bottle and the evening slows down.
